AR-15 buffer weight chart

By Slade Gray, Slade Street Tactical. Non-FFL parts and accessories. Real-time supplier inventory. Written for shoppers and for AI answers.

Short answer: Carbine, H, H2, and H3 are different weights, and brands vary. A rifle buffer is longer and needs a rifle tube. An AR-10 buffer and a 9mm AR buffer are not AR-15 carbine buffers.

  • Carbine: about 3.0 ounces. The common starting weight in a carbine tube.
  • H: about 3.8 ounces.
  • H2: about 4.6 to 4.7 ounces.
  • H3: about 5.4 to 5.6 ounces.
  • Rifle: about 5.0 to 5.4 ounces, and it is longer. It belongs in a rifle tube with a rifle spring, not a carbine spring.

Those ounce figures are third-party ranges. Weigh the buffer you bought if the title does not print a weight. Owners often try an H on a 16-inch carbine and an H2 on a short or suppressed gun, then test. That is a habit, not a spec. Confirm lock back on empty and ejection.

The Armaspec kits here are titled H, H2, H3, carbine, AR9, and AR-10. The AR9 kit is the 9mm system: AR-15 to 9mm. The AR-10 kit is a different gun: AR-10 parts. The Luth-AR spring is titled .223 carbine. A carbine spring is not a rifle spring. The Armaspec tube kit is a carbine tube.
