What gun do Navy SEALs carry?

Navy SEALs do not carry one gun. A platoon takes a sidearm and a carbine, plus a shotgun or a longer rifle when the job needs it. The pistol people still picture is the Sig P226. The pistol Naval Special Warfare issued for everyday carry after about 2015 is a Glock 19 (Mk27). The carbine in most photos is an M4-pattern short barrel — usually a Mk18 CQBR — not a civilian AR pistol, and not an HK416 unless you are looking at a different unit’s pictures.

Sidearm: Glock 19 (Mk27). NSW moved from the P226 to the Glock 19 as the general sidearm around 2015–2016. Compact 9mm, polymer, one trigger pull. Photos often show a SureFire X300 on the rail and a Trijicon RMR on the slide. That is a light-bearing, optic-cut setup — a plain Glock 19 holster will not fit it. MOS plates adapt the factory cut to RMR / SRO / Holosun. This store lists 10-round Glock 19 magazines, not 15-round.

Sidearm: Sig P226 (Mk25). This is the classic SEAL pistol — full-size metal 9mm, DA/SA, phosphate internals for salt water, often an anchor on the slide. Many older P226s have no rail. Mk25 and later railed frames take a TLR-8, TLR-2, or X400 with the SIG locating key, not the Glock key. A P320 or P365 holster is not a P226 holster. Carbine: M4 / Mk18, not “an HK.” Regular SEAL teams have run the M4A1 and the short Mk18 (about a 10.3-inch CQBR upper) for years. That is an AR-15-pattern upper: same BCG, charging handle, and mil-spec stock as a civilian AR-15. A 10.5-inch M-LOK rail (Geissele MK16 and similar) matches a short barrel; a 15-inch rifle rail hangs past a 10.3-inch muzzle. HK416 shows up more in DEVGRU / other JSOC photos — it is not the default answer for “what SEAL teams carry.” SIG MCX (including compact .300 BLK) is in the SOCOM mix; MCX charging handles and Scout mounts are not AR-15 parts.

Shotgun. Breaching and door work is still a 12-gauge pump: Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590. Those are shotguns, not rifles. Stocks, side saddles, and heat shields must say 870 or 500/590.

What this is not. Beretta M9 was the conventional Navy sidearm, not the SEAL pistol after they switched to P226. M17/M18 is the wider Navy/Army Modular Handgun — NSW kept the Glock 19. A civilian “SEAL” marked P226 is marketing, not an issue gun. We do not kit a clone, and we do not sell machine guns, auto sears, or 15-round magazines.
