What gun do special ops carry?

There is no one “special ops gun.” U.S. special operations (SOCOM) is several units with related small arms, not one loadout. The carbine you see in most photos is an M4-pattern 5.56 — either a 14.5 / 11.5-inch URG-I or a short Mk18. The pistol you see most is a Glock 19 (Mk27). Army units also issue the Sig M17 (P320). Navy photos still get tagged as the old P226. HK416, SCAR-H, and MCX show up in some units. They are not the default answer for every operator.

Who “special ops” is. SOCOM covers Army Rangers, Army Special Forces (Green Berets), Navy SEALs / SWCC, MARSOC Raiders, and Air Force Special Tactics, plus smaller JSOC units. Ranger School is a course, not a regiment. “Special Forces” in the Army is Green Berets, not a generic label for all SOF. Delta and DEVGRU pictures are a different mix (HK416 shows up there more than in a Ranger or SF ODA photo). This page stays with what is public and common.

Carbine. Army SOF (Rangers, Green Berets) standardized on the M4A1, then the URG-I upper: Geissele MK16 M-LOK, Airborne charging handle, 14.5-inch or 11.5-inch barrel. MARSOC is in the same M4 family. NSW photos are more often the short Mk18 (about 10.3 inches). Same AR-15-pattern BCG, charging handle, and mil-spec stock. A 13.5-inch MK16 matches a 14.5-inch barrel; a 10.5-inch MK16 matches a short barrel; a 15-inch rifle rail hangs past both. Mk17 SCAR-H is the 7.62 rifle some squads keep — SCAR parts are not AR-15 parts. SIG MCX charging handles and Scout mounts are not AR-15 parts either.

Pistol. SOCOM’s compact 9mm is the Glock 19 (Mk27), often with an X300 and an RMR — a light-bearing, optic-cut holster, not a plain 19 shell. Army MHS is the M17 / M18 (P320 Full vs Compact). NSW’s classic pistol is the P226 Mk25; current NSW everyday carry is still the Glock 19. A P226 holster is not a P320 holster. A P365 holster is not either. On the gun. Holographic EXPS / XPS, Aimpoint T2 on a riser, SureFire Scout on the carbine, X300 or TLR-1 on the pistol. A Scout M-LOK mount is not a Glock rail key. A TLR-7 Sub is a slim-gun light, not a duty Glock 19 or M4.

Shotgun and the rest. Breaching is a 12-gauge pump (870 / 500 / 590). Crew-served (M249, Mk46, M240, Carl Gustaf) are not in this catalog as serialized guns. Green Berets train on foreign rifles; an AK-47 magazine on this site is still an AK mag, not an “ODA gun.”

What this is not. A civilian “SOCOM” marked AR is marketing. We do not kit a clone. We do not sell machine guns, auto sears, or 30-round magazines. If you know the unit, use the SEAL or Ranger page. If you only know “special ops,” start with M4-pattern parts and a Glock 19 or M17 holster that names the light.
